2011 was an important year for homesales.com.au, the property portal owned by?carsales.com Ltd ? Australia?s leading automotive classifieds site.

Over the course of the year listings grew to more than 100,000 from 3,500 real estate agencies, it welcomed many new agency groups, it introduced improved functionality, and finally it ?soft? launched rental listings on the site. ?By year end, it had over 10,000 rental listings.

?It was an exciting milestone for the business to pass the 100,000 listings mark,? said homesales.com.au General Manager, Rhett Dallwitz.

?To reach this volume within such a short period of time shows the commitment we have to making homesales.com.au a success. Not only from within the business also from the wider real estate industry,? Mr Dallwitz added.

Homesales.com.au is a free-to-list website for licensed real estate agents. Agents can list either via the 30+ bulk-uploader providers feeding through to the site or by manually listing via the easy to use manual uploading system.

While listings growth has been good, it is traffic that the advertisers look for as this traffic generates leads. ?According to Google Ad Planner, homesales.com.au trails many other Australian players by a significant margin. ?In January 2012 (according to Google Ad Planner), realestate.com.au has 3.8 million unique visitors (users), domain had 2 million, realestateview.com.au had 390,000,?homehound.com.au had 320,000,?onthehouse.com.au had 290,000, thehomepage.com.au had 180,000 while homesales.com.au had 110,000.

Simon Baker, former CEO and MD of the REA Group and publisher of Property Portal Watch commented, ?homesales has done a good job at building content and 100,000 listings provides good representation across the market. ?The challenge now is in building traffic to the site. ?There is a chance to move up the Australian rankings by leveraging the CarSales group of sites and their overall traffic of 15+ million visits per month. ?However, this may be a little more difficult than it sounds as there may not be a clear link between people searching for car classifieds and those searching for a new home.?

Ajay Bhatia, Director of homesales.com.au and CIO of carsales.com Ltd said ?by engaging with consumers we are able to develop user friendly products with new cutting edge technologies leveraging the expertise of the carsales.com Ltd team. This year will bring strong growth to the homesales brand as we further mark our foot print within the real estate industry.?

In late January this year, homesales.com.au released in-depth property data within its property details pages. The data is provided by Residex which has been providing data to Australian consumers and the finance sector for more than a decade.

One of the unique data products offered at homesales.com.au is the Street Statistics#. Shown within homesales.com.au?s property details pages, Street Statistics provide low, medium and high values for properties within the advertised street. homesales.com.au also delivers suburb-by-suburb information including medium weekly rents, rental yields and demographical information ranging from average household income right through to birth place.
