Hezbollah: Really a clear and present danger to US?

Whether Hezbollah poses a threat to the United States remains unclear despite Rep. Peter King's warning that the Iranian-backed terror group may have thousands of supporters in America, Reuters reports.

?We know Hezbollah operatives are here,? King, R-N.Y., said March 21 as he opened a House Committee on Homeland Security hearing on ?Iran, Hezbollah, and the Threat to the Homeland.? King, the committee chairman, warned that officials estimated thousands of Hezbollah agents could be in the country.

He also went on CNN to say Hezbollah ?is the ?A? team of international terrorism ? far more sophisticated than al-Qaida."

But Reuters said that U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials and private experts, while concluding there is a threat, say ?whether it is imminent or extensive is far from clear.?

Concern over Hezbollah's operations comes amid a growing confrontation over Iran's nuclear program, Reuters said.

An attack on Iran?s nuclear sites could prompt Hezbollah to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel as well as the United States, where most of its activities have been fund-raising and surveillance, officials told Reuters. But there is a big difference between being a Hezbollah supporter and someone who would be willing to engage in violent activity, officials told Reuters.

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Patrick Dempsey is bringing his passion for auto racing to television with a new documentary series.

The "Grey's Anatomy" star will produce "Road to Le Mans," a four-part series about his competition in the venerable French race, the Velocity channel said Thursday.

Dempsey, who has a professional auto racing team based in Georgia, will be both owner and driver at the 24-hour endurance race.

"Road to Le Mans," set to air by mid-2013, will include his team's preparation for the event, including sponsor acquisition, training and time trials, and the race itself.

Dempsey, a documentary buff, said combining the series and the art of racing is a "perfect fit."

For the fledgling, 6-month-old Velocity, "Road to Le Mans" represents its biggest financial commitment yet to a series or a special, said Bob Scanlon, the channel's general manager and senior vice president.

Velocity is part of Discovery Communications, which was to announce its channels' upcoming programming Thursday in New York for advertisers. Formerly HD Theater, Velocity reaches about 40 million homes and focuses on topics including cars, sports, adventure and travel.

Dempsey, who has driven at Le Mans before, exemplifies the "timeless cool" that is part of the channel's brand as it targets a male, upscale audience, Scanlon said.

The actor also can bring racing's drama to a new generation, he said, following in the tradition of other stars who competed on film and in real life, including Paul Newman ("Winning"), James Garner ("Grand Prix") and Steve McQueen ("Le Mans").

The mix, however, creates a burden of proof that an actor isn't merely a dilettante driver.

"You have people who are skeptical, who are looking for any mistake to make that the story, rather than the small things you've done successfully," Dempsey said.

He and his Mazda racing team have gained increasing credibility. Even with commitments to his day job that limit his competition, Dempsey's posted top 10 finishes, including a career-best third last year with his teammates at the Rolex 24 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

His love of the sport is based on elements including its physical and mental challenges and something hard to find in Hollywood: "Control of your own destiny," Dempsey said. The track also is definitive.

"In racing, either you're fast and you're the first one across the line, or you're not," he said.

At this point, his heart is with screen projects about the sport, Dempsey said. Besides "Road to Le Mans," he is to star in the film adaptation of Garth Stein's 2008 novel, "The Art of Racing in the Rain."

He's been devoted to the project, which finally found a home at Universal, for five years.

"It's the material for me that's gonna generate the most passion," he said. "With 'Grey's,' after eight years, there's very little left to explore and you're pretty much on autopilot."

That sounds as if he's ready to call it quits as Dr. Derek Shepherd, aka McDreamy, on the ABC medical drama. But he demurs.

"Nothing has been resolved, either to end or to continue," he said, adding diplomatically that "one has to be grateful" for work opportunities in today's economic climate.

Not having one can be a real shame especially if you?re working to improve the property?s salability. It?s very important as most homebuyers are looking for a home with at least a 2-vehicle garage.

4. Technology and appliances

This is a rather tricky part that most homeowners have a hard time balancing in as one should not over invest in technology because it is changing everyday but outdated appliances also doesn?t help your home?s status in the real estate market.

5. Don?t go out of the radar

This simply means not to get ahead of a neighbor and the neighborhood. Don?t over invest and overbuild if you don?t plan to retire in that home or at least stay in it for the next 10 years or so. Try to stay within the reasonable limits of the community just in case you have to move out unexpectedly.

Coming up with ideas for improvement is not a bad thing especially if the entire household would benefit from it, but while you?re on the process why not make that idea a great one, right?

Yahoo slashes 14 percent of its workforce

In a long-anticipated move, struggling Internet giant Yahoo said Wednesday that it would be cutting 2,000 jobs, or about 14? percent, of its workforce.??

The move is part of a major restructuring of the company, Yahoo said in a statement. The cuts announced Wednesday represent 14 percent of the 14,100 workers employed by Yahoo, which is based in Sunnyvale, Calif.

"Today, the company will begin the process of informing employees about these changes. As part of that effort, approximately 2,000 people will be notified of job elimination or phased transition," the statement said.

The company declined to comment on severance details.

"Today's actions are an important next step toward a bold, new Yahoo! ? smaller, nimbler, more profitable and better equipped to innovate as fast as our customers and our industry require. We are intensifying our efforts on our core businesses and redeploying resources to our most urgent priorities. Our goal is to get back to our core purpose ? putting our users and advertisers first ? and we are moving aggressively to achieve that goal," said

Scott Thompson , CEO of Yahoo.

The layoffs come as Yahoo's revenue declines amid competition from Web rivals Google Inc and Facebook, and as the company fights a proxy battle with hedge fund manager Daniel Loeb.

Loeb, who runs Third Point, is seeking to appoint four new directors to Yahoo's board. Third Point, with a 5.8 percent stake in Yahoo, is the company's largest shareholder.

Sexual violence is everyone?s issue: in fact, a new national study?found that?one in three women and one in five men in Massachusetts have experienced sexual violence, typically starting at a young age.

April is?National Sexual Assault Awareness Month?(SAAM), and as the DPH Director of Sexual Assault Prevention and Survivor Services Unit, I am honored to serve this year as Advisory Council Chair for the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC). NSVRC serves as a coordinating and resource organization for SAAM, and has designated this year?s SAAM theme as "Healthy Sexuality".

This theme connects with conversations we?ve long had at DPH about healthy sexuality, and its connection to preventing sexual violence and other health concerns. Several years ago, staff from DPH programs such as violence prevention, teen pregnancy prevention, and HIV prevention came together with the understanding that that our work would be more effective in all of these areas if we could find common ground and coordinate efforts in what we were all trying to promote as a vision of wellness. DPH now has a cross-Department Healthy Sexuality/Healthy Relationships workgroup?to coordinate the promotion of positive sexual development across the lifespan, in order to improve the health, safety, and well-being of MA residents. The MA Sexual Violence Prevention Plan?further reinforces these connections, and supports our community partners who work across MA to prevent and respond to sexual violence.

Gov. Patrick said: "Massachusetts has a plan?to keep children from developing problem sexual behaviors, help parents and educators teach children that sexual respect is expected, and assist adults in changing the climates in our diverse communities and institutions so that healthy relationships between all people can be the state norm?not only to improve our response to incidents?but also toward shaping a safer, healthier future".
